SR-Λ Nova Signature - Overview
SR-Λ Nova Signature (LNS) was the TOTL model in the Stax SR-Λ Nova series in the mid 1990's. It has a wide PC-OCC signal cord, which was originally introduced with the original Stax Omega. LNS also sports a 1.5 micron thick diaphragm and electrode gap is 0.5 mm. The entire Nova range introduced new headband and arc assembly and breathable earpads that were made from new type of vinyl that turned out to be less durable than the material used before.
SR-Λ Nova series employs some of the electrode design of the SR-Omega. The company used the research that went into the SR-Omega to create improved fixed-electrodes that produce a more natural frequency curve. Stax mentioned in the Nova literature that the electrode was the most important part of sound quality and that they incorporated the SR-Omega electrode technology into the Novas.
General Description of the Sound
LNS is a great-sounding headphone. To me it is one of the best of the entire Lambda lineup. The sound signature is relaxed and very refined, with details abundant but not exaggerated or shoved in your face. The dynamic range is great and frequency extension is excellent. The treble etch that was a problem with SR-Lambda Pro and SR-Lambda Signature is absent in LNS - this in my opinion makes it more enjoyable than the former models. The new numerical Lambda series went for a more exciting sound, but that re-introduced the treble etch and according to many owners this ruins the great headphones that SR-303 and SR-404 are otherwise.

I would have to agree mostly with Faust3d, except that the lower treble etch has been reduced, rather than eliminated. A great headphone.
